The show airing this Tuesday is:
Depression is a common mental condition that affects millions of people either as a minor temporary episode or as more permanent personality trait. When it comes to treatment, medication seems to be the most prevalent modality, yet there are some practitioners applying other complementary techniques in search of valid alternatives. That is the case of Amy Weintraub, whom I had the opportunity to interview in Austin Texas, where she was a presenter at the Symposium on Yoga Therapy and Research.
Amy Weintraub is director of the LifeForce Yoga Healing Institute and author of the best-selling Yoga for Depression and the groundbreaking Yoga Skills for Therapists. She has been a pioneer in the field of yoga and mental health for more than 20 years and is involved in ongoing research on the effects of yoga on mood. Her LifeForce Yoga protocol is being used in residential treatment centers, hospitals and by health-care providers throughout the world.
Most people know Yoga, yet what’s most popular is the Asanas, the aspect of Yoga that deals with the Body. Yoga comes from the Sanskrit word ‘Yuj’ and it means ‘union’, basically the union between Body-Mind-Spirit and utlimately everything that exists.
YogiViews is a TV show where Antonio Sausys interviews Yoga itself, through interviewing those who practice it, teach it, sell it or simply love it.
The interviewed range anywhere from great Masters deeply rooted in lineage and tradition to self made teachers; from savvy business men (and women!) who’d made a fortune selling yoga as a product, to those street-smart that know to rub the hands when cold in winter; from those who renamed yoga to make it acceptable, to those loyal to no other name than Yoga…
The format is either a half or a full hour show that at times presents a clip, or a real person, sometimes all in studio, others all outside, sometimes guiding practical experiences, others immersing in words…, but always true to Yoga.
The audience is everyone, those who practice can learn more and demystify old beliefs and those who don’t can learn why it works; those who love it can learn more about why they love it and those who don’t can learn to love it…, bottom line: Yoga represents the ‘Whole’, therefore ‘everyone’ is touched by it, including You!
Yoga has been around for 6000 years, despite trends, prohibitions and even modern standardization! Why is it…, how does it work…, who are those who pass it on…? Stay tuned and watch YogiViews to find out! The show airs at Comcast Channel 26 or AT&T Channel 99 (San Francisco Bay Area, California) on Tuesdays at 8:30 pm PST (repeat on Wednesdays at 11:30 am PST)
